Adult Overbite Reconstruction
Full Mouth Occlusal Rehabilitation
The patient pictured here had a significant history of shifted and rotated teeth accruing, partly, to his failure to maintain the use of a retainer following traditional orthodontic treatment during his earlier years. An overbite condition also existed.
A business executive with an active, high visibility career, the patient was seeking alternatives to traditional braces, including Invisalign treatment.
He was seeking a reconstructive result with the use of porcelain restorative materials. The goal was to have nice looking teeth and normalized dental function (no overbite) with the shortest amount of treatment time.
Articulation Studies: Occlusal Analysis
Articulation studies and diagnostic waxup models were used extensively determining which combinations of restorative and reconstructive dental procedures would provide the result he wanted.
Occlusal - Overbite Porcelain Reconstruction
Combinations of 12 Porcelain Veneers (providing overall cosmetic redesign outcome) and 6 Lava Porcelain Crowns (recreate normal occlusal properties) were used to recreate the normal dental function he hadn't had for years.
Extra Attention to Detail and Analysis
The veneers were handcrafted on a tooth-by-tooth basis producing size an symmetry changes in all 3 dimensions. This degree of extra attention to detail eliminated the issues associated with veneer products failing due to unbalanced occlusal properties of a patient's bite.
Both upper and lower arches (maxillary and mandibular) now share normal occusal relationships.
The fear of restorations of failing due to an overbite or other occlusal disturbance were overcome with the selective use of restorative dentistry products as opposed to long term orthodontic teeth straightening. With good oral hygiene habits and preventive care, the patient should be able to enjoy years of endurance.
The restorative method of creating an orthodontic outcome also enabled the patient to have a normal smile line (LVI Rule of Golden Proportions: sizing of teeth and curvature of incisal edges of upper teeth) that would have been nearly impossible to achieve with traditional orthodontic braces or Invisalign.
